Madeira Airport opens

The arrival of a TAP Super Constellation from Lisbon marked the official opening of what was then Santa Catarina Airport.

The inaugural flight landed on 8 July 1964 at 11:24. The new air connection transformed mobility for Madeirans and brought the archipelago closer to the rest of the world.
