The October 2023 wildfires

Wildfires struck central and western Madeira, particularly Calheta and Porto Moniz.

Between 9 and 15 October, fire spread through several parishes, threatened homes and damaged farms, land and infrastructure. Worsened by unusual temperatures, the emergency again exposed Madeira's vulnerability to severe wildfire.
