The Laurisilva becomes World Heritage

UNESCO inscribed Madeira's Laurisilva forest on the World Heritage List.

The World Heritage Committee recognised the largest surviving area of this forest type and its exceptional biodiversity. International listing cemented the Laurisilva as a symbol of Madeira and strengthened responsibility for its conservation.
