Rubina Leal becomes the first woman to lead Madeira's Parliament

For the first time, a woman was elected President of Madeira's Legislative Assembly.

Rubina Leal's election at the start of the fifteenth legislature broke a gender barrier in the Region's foremost self-governing institution. It entered Madeira's institutional history almost fifty years after the first autonomous Parliament opened.
