Madeira marks its first free May Day

Thousands took to the streets of Funchal only days after the April Revolution.

The first free Labour Day celebration since the dictatorship made the country's political and social change visible. In Madeira, the demonstration was especially charged while Américo Tomás and Marcelo Caetano awaited departure into exile.
