Madeira's fireworks enter Guinness World Records

Funchal's New Year's Eve display was recognised as the world's largest fireworks display.

The 2006–07 record gave worldwide visibility to a tradition already central to Madeira's calendar. The distinction stood until 2012 and cemented New Year's Eve as one of the Region's main visitor events.
